TOOL MAKER 3 or 4

Full-time, direct hire

Pay: up to $43/hour depending on experience (Level 3 and Level 4)

ITAR COMPLIANCE REQUIRED: must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A precision manufacturer serving the military, law enforcement and commercial markets is adding an experienced Tool Maker to its manufacturing engineering team. You will build and repair the tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and molds that keep production running, and mentor junior machinists in the tool room. Candidates at or above this skill level are welcome.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Build and repair custom machine shop tools using machining equipment and precision measuring instruments

- Work from blueprints, sketches, verbal or written instructions, or the part to be copied to create or modify prototypes, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and molds

- Calculate the dimensions and tolerances required to set up machine tools

- Plan setups on lathes, knee mills, surface grinders, milling and CNC machines, accounting for materials, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, feeds and speeds

- Perform hand operations to finish jigs, fixtures, tools and dies

- Inspect work to blueprint with precision measuring equipment

- Mentor and train junior machinists and new tool room employees; may lead and coordinate the work of others

- Follow work instructions, SOPs, preventive maintenance instructions, and quality and safety procedures

- Contribute to continuous improvement in safety, 6S, quality, delivery and productivity

- Keep machines, tools, work surfaces and floors clean and free of oil, grease and chips

WHAT YOU NEED

- Must be ITAR compliant (U.S. person: U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident); this is a hard requirement

- High school diploma or equivalent

- 5 to 10 years of manufacturing experience in a metalworking environment

- Completed apprenticeship, journeyman training or equivalent on-the-job training (apprenticeship certificate may be required)

- Advanced shop math and strong GD&T skills

- Full proficiency across a broad range of tool room work; able to handle complex jobs independently under general guidance

- Experience mentoring skilled tool room personnel

- Must own and maintain your own tools

- Strong attention to detail and record keeping; able to prioritize and work under deadlines

- Willing to work varying shifts, weekends and extra hours as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Manufacturing floor with machinery, noise, chemicals and lights/lasers

- Lift and carry awkward items up to 50 pounds

- Intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the day

- PPE required

- Drug-free workplace
