FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN 2 (ROAD MECHANIC)

Chesapeake, VA (Hampton Roads / Tidewater) | Full-time, direct hire

Schedule: Full-time, field based

Pay: Up to $33/hour depending on experience

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A national equipment rental company with branches across North America is adding a Field Service Technician to its Chesapeake branch. This is a road mechanic role: you take the service truck to customer job sites and keep rental equipment up and running. The fleet is mostly aerial work platforms and general construction tools and equipment. Specialty lines can include large-scale power generators, pumps, HVAC systems and oil and gas equipment. The company invests in on-the-job training and offers a clear career track into service or operations management.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Perform preventive maintenance on rental equipment in the field

- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical and diesel engine issues on site

- Work on a wide variety of makes, models and equipment types, often in remote or challenging locations

- Keep customer downtime to a minimum while working safely

- Handle changing priorities in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment

WHAT YOU NEED

- 3 to 5 years of mechanic experience on diesel equipment, heavy construction equipment or specialty equipment (large generators, pumps, HVAC, oil and gas) strongly preferred

- Hydraulic system knowledge and troubleshooting fundamentals

- Electrical system knowledge and troubleshooting fundamentals

- High school diploma or GED required; trade school or equivalent training preferred

- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

- Must be 21 or older with a CDL at some locations

- May need to supply own mechanic's hand tools

- Bilingual (Spanish or other) may be required based on location needs

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Field work at customer job sites, indoors and outdoors. Frequent bending, squatting, crouching and reaching. Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.
